our biggest event in january was that our baby girl got rid of her dub (pacifier). we weren't planning on doing it anytime soon because she only used it at nighttime and for naps and left it in her crib when she was awake. but while she was sick she got really attached to it and started asking for it all the time, even after she got better. so we decided that it was time to get rid of it. it helped that she wasnt back to a normal sleeping schedule anyways so we thought we might as well do it when she was waking up anyways.
we decided to use the tried and true ashton/brooksby method of giving your dub to some animals. my cousin and i both gave it ducks. my sister gave it to the bear at the zoo. it works like a charm.
bri loves duckies too so we decided to give her to the duckies too. all week we talked about what about girl she was and talked about taking her dub to give to the baby duckies. "cause baby duckies need dubs too". and by the time we went on saturday she knew exactly what was going on and turned over her dub with no problems.
we went for a fun lunch at wendys afterwards and asked her all day where her dub was and she would happily tell us that she "gave it to the baby ducks cause i a big girl!"
of course, that doesn't mean that nighttime wasn't super sad and full of tears, but atleast she knew where her dub went. she wanted us to "stay with me" the first couple of nights, but after only a week she was back to putting herself to sleep and sleeping all the way through the night. and other kids dubs dont tempt her because the baby ducks have hers. the only bummer about the dub is that since its been gone, naps have basically become non existent. so rest time in the crib it is!
we are so proud of our big girl even though we still cant believe that she is old enough to not use her dub anymore. even 3 months after the fact! whenever we look at pictures of her we a dub she looks so little. she is definitely a big girl now!
we lured the ducks over with goldfish first.
she loves feeding the ducks
saying goodbye to being a baby :(
our big girl getting rid of her dub and enjoying her celebration lunch! we love her!!
*no ducks were harmed while getting rid of her dub. no worries we picked it up while bri wasn't looking and brought it home for her baby box :)
